5 Megapixel Digital Camera Photography Shack Guide

My First 5 Megapixel Digital Camera

By Cedric B Georges

5 Megapixel cameras are now available on mobile cell phones and most good digital cameras start with 5 megapixels and go higher, to get better picture quality. The more megapixels the better. A lot of professional cameras are 10 megapixels or more.

In the early days of the digital revolution, I had very little experience with digital cameras, and a lot of it was negative. Up until I got my 5 megapixel camera, I thought that a film camera was the only way to go. This is because I gave up too early.

My camera phone provided my first taste of digital photography. It had horrible resolution. I think it was close to 2.1 megapixels. It looked so blocky and blurry that it was almost impossible to tell what you were looking at. Hardly any detail in the image. Especially when you tried to slightly enlarge the image, to see more detail.

Now that I have a Canon Powershot 5.0 megapixel digital camera, I know better. The image is brilliant. There is no other way to describe it. The digital camera has not replaced the film camera yet, but it has come close.

Although a film camera still has a better picture, it is not that much better. Most 5 megapixel cameras definitely give old film cameras a run for their money. If the image is not quite as good, it certainly is close. Besides that, the advantages of using a 5 megapixel camera over a film camera are obvious.

Advantages of Digital

You do not have to pay for film or wait for the picture to be developed, and you can instantly see what it looks like. For all but the most professional photographers, a digital camera is surely the way to go! A lot of professional photographers nowadays, use both film and digital, or totally digital, depending on the requirements of the project.

Fragile Electronics

Of course, there is a downside to a 5 megapixel camera. First of all, they are fragile. Cameras in general can be easily damaged, but much more can go wrong with a digital camera.

There are a million different ways that the sensitive electronics can get ruined by being slightly jarred or banged around. Besides that, people steal digital cameras all the time. When I first got my 5 megapixel camera, no less than three people tried to grab it from me.

Fortunately, each time I had it secured to the strap and was able to ward them off. Even so, I still react with caution whenever anyone walks too close to me if I am wearing my camera around my neck. I don't want to lose it, after all. It costs a small fortune.

Despite all of these downsides, I think it is still worth it. My 5 megapixel camera has really changed the way I see the world.

Easy to use

It is so easy to capture any image that I see, using my digital camera. Before, using my film camera had to carefully select every image, so as not to waste film. I never knew how it would come out until I had developed the film. Now I can see it immediately on the display or on my computer!

In 2007, you can now buy professional 12 megapixel cameras, but a lot of the consumer cameras have progressed to 6 to 10 megapixel and take even better and cleaner images.
