Baby Photo Contest Is Not A Beauty Contest
By Jane Lovell
In the advertising industry, few things are more effective
to drawing attention to a product than a baby. If you’re
interested in getting your baby into the modeling business,
then entering a baby photo contest is a good place to
start.
However, as any professional photographer will tell
you, getting that perfect cute baby photo can be tough
when you’re working with an infant. In this article,
we’ll tell you what judges will be looking for and how
you can edge out the competition.
If you ask any photographer, he’ll tell you that taking
newborn baby photos can be a challenge. After all, babies
don’t smile on command! This means that you have to
be willing to dedicate time to getting that perfect
"baby photo contest" shot. Ideally, pick a
location that is interesting and comfortable for your
child, like a park.
Looking For A Great Opportunity For Photographs
Be prepared with food, toys or a favorite blanket.
Going to someplace like a zoo where your child will
be exposed to things for the first time is a great opportunity
for photographs. Just imagine the expression on your
little monkey’s face when he sees wild animals for the
first time!
Baby photography demands different camera tactics.
Your camera should have a high shutter speed to avoid
blurry shots. Digital cameras are preferable, but if
you’re using a film camera, then get one that
loads quickly and easily. Composition is important.
Shoot at the eye level of your child.
A Baby Photo Contest And Interesting Images
This makes the image appear more enticing and expressive.
Although close ups are popular, full body photos can
do well so long as there aren’t distracting backgrounds
and props. You can also overpower your baby’s personality
with frilly clothing and accessories, so keep it natural.
It’s crucial that you remember that a photo contest
for babies is not a beauty contest. Judges are not looking
for physical perfection. Let’s face it, all babies are
beautiful! Judges usually focus on originality and the
quality of the photo. They also evaluate the child’s
expression, personality and the overall impression of
the photo.
Look For Wonderful Spontaneous Moments
A photo that elicits an immediate reaction is more
likely to get a judge’s attention, so look for wonderful,
spontaneous moments. For instance, perhaps your baby
bursts out laughing while playing with a pet or is awestruck
by a fabulous new toy. The more unique your cute baby
photo is, the better your chance of winning, such as
a Gerber baby contest.
If you are serious about entering your child in a baby
photo contest, then invest in a good camera. The cutest
shot in the world will be lost if the picture is blurry.
Be sure that you read the manual thoroughly so that
you can use the camera effectively.
You should also do your homework thoroughly and know
what judges are looking for in a baby girl or baby boy
photo. Most contests come with a set of guidelines.
Follow them closely and be creative so that you can
show off your beautiful little one.
