Concept Car To Showcase New Innovations
By Sylvia Adolvana
It was during the 1950s that the concept car was introduced
to the public by car manufacturing pioneers like General
Motors. The goal of these concept cars was, and still
is, to showcase new innovations in concept design ideas
and give a stylish presentation of new model cars.
So, it is not at all unexpected that most concept cars
are only seen in car shows and never make it to the
assembly line or car dealership showrooms. It is merely
to showcase new automobile designs and innovations.
Showcasing New Styles For A New Car Model
Concept cars are usually developed merely to show new
styles that are possible for a new car model to have
in the future. Since this is the theme of the showcase
being presented to car enthusiasts, the goal really
is not of practicality on the side of the manufacturer
or the public in using the said car.
The concept a company develops creates the possibility
for further prototype development of the car so that
it can be mass produced.
Making Practical Alterations
If the concept car is seen by the car manufacturer
as having a potential for profit, then the basic design
may be altered for practicality. Altering its design
for practicality means it will be better suited for
mass production and for mass consumption.
Practicality may also involve a review of options and
altering some of the specifications of the car, in terms
of its appearance. It could be redesigned to suit and
fit the tastes of the common and regular car buyers.
Specifications Fitting The Needs Of The Consumer
Instead of a futuristic design, it may be redesigned
to a more conservative level, aligned with the tastes
of the average consumer. Even the makeup of the motor
can be redesigned just to make it fit with the needs
of the buying public.
To summarize, a concept car is a model car which car
manufacturers intend to showcase to the general public
and car enthusiasts. The original concept art idea for
the car is made into a working prototype, with the possibility
that future car models could be produced and made suitable
for common and regular car users.
In a way, this car is showcased to the public not directly
for public consumption but only as a stepping stone
for a new model car which could be mass produced in
the future.

More Prototype Facts....
What happens if the prototype is flawed or defective?
If the prototype is flawed or defective
notes are taken on where the prototype has failed. Prototypes
are designed so that testers can find flaws in them
before the finished product is authorized for
manufacturing.
The testers report their findings
to the designers and engineers and from there the problems
are corrected. A second (Beta) version is developed
and sent to the testers again.
The Beta version will have corrected
the problems of the Alpha and testers will further examine
for more flaws or defects. The cycle continues on until
the final product is reached and it becomes ready to
be manufactured for consumers.
