Custom Picture Framing For Perfect Photographic Art
By George Goodall Jnr
Unfortunately, not all pictures, prints and other artwork
are the same "standard" size, which can make
finding the right mat board and frame a little difficult
and frustrating. You can always alter your picture to
accommodate the frame, which means you may have to crop
it, thus losing some of the art.
Custom picture framing allows you to make sure that
the frame accommodates the art so that you will be able
to showcase your art in its entirety. If you would like
to make your own frame but are not quite sure how it
is done, then there are kits available with detailed
instructions. Most of the kits will also offer or suggest
the best way to complete the project along with other
hints along the way.
A Perfect Fit For Your Favorite Picture
Unlike pre-assembled frames, a custom picture frame
ensures that the fit will be perfect, as it can be built
literally component by component. You can match your
ideal frame moulding and mat to your picture, which
in turn will allow you to express more creativity in
coordinating your decor.
Choose from metal or wood picture frame options in
pretty much any shape or style that you can imagine.
Picture framing services will create a personal frame
to your exact specifications, including materials, size
and shape.
Moulding And Mounting Board
The moulding, which is the metal or wood frame itself,
is only one component used in custom picture framing.
Another part is the mounting board that provides the
support needed to the back of the frame. The mat is
an optional accessory that is used as an additional
pleasing visual element. And, finally, the glazing is
the protective, transparent coating that is typically
made of acrylic or glass.
With regard to picture framing supplies, many feel
that the mat is the place to start when creating a unique,
art picture framing look. You want it to compliment
both the art and the frame, so typically the color or
texture is a determining factor. As a general rule when
deciding upon the size of the mat is to measure the
item you are framing and then subtract about 1/4 of
an inch from your mat window opening.
Using a mat when you decide on custom picture framing
can be done in several different ways to enhance the
visual impact of your artwork or photographic image.
You can decide to layer two mats, which are cut in different
sizes and can be contrasting colors, white on white,
or you can add a unique texture to bring out certain
aspects of the picture.

More Digital Frames Facts....
How have picture frames changed from the first ones
used?
If you take a look at any of your
pictures hanging on the wall and something a child has
drawn, it is easy to see how picture frames have changed.
Since the first frames were simply outlined with charcoal
so that the pictures could be separated, the jump to
using an actual frame to outline and protect the artwork
is easy to see.
The first frames were relatively
simple but as time progressed and art became a driving
force in culture, the frames became more and more ornate.
After a time what was inside the frame became unimportant
as the frame would often be what drew the eye. The frames
would be gilded with gold and jewels to show just how
artistic the frame maker was.
As time progressed and the picture
frame began to be mass produced, a more simplistic frame
entered the market. It was far more affordable and still
could protect the artwork inside. The frame was simply
there to protect the artwork with the artwork being
the most important part of the whole package rather
than the frame being the true piece of art.
In today’s market the picture
frame has changed dramatically. Digital picture frames
have become the "in style" thing to have because you
can show a variety of pictures using just one frame
rather than have hundred of pictures in traditional
frames.
