Development Prototyping To Meet Customer Requests
By Sylvia Adolvana
There are two different types of prototyping used in
the design process: rapid prototyping and development
prototyping. The basic concept design is approved with
the use of a rapid prototype machine by the time the
process gets to the creation of a development prototype.
The development prototype is made functional by trying
out different materials for production as well as looking
at the appearance of the product and testing surface
designs. Any potential product failures or safety issues
are usually addressed at this point.
Prototype development is a good opportunity to try
making the part or product from different materials
to see which one will satisfy the customer. Failure
due to the wrong choice of materials or manufacturing
processes will negate any of the benefits associated
with a good basic concept.
Use A Design Service To Catch The Attention Of The Consumer
The majority of the designing process should be over
with at this point and this is just a final opportunity
to test the prototype in different environments or to
try it on an assembly line. It is also a chance to review
all options and make any last minute cosmetic changes
and determine if those changes are worth the added cost.
The four stages of development prototyping are as follows.
In the first stage, the design team works to put shape
to a concept art idea. They will work directly with
the customer to come up with a design that meets their
needs.
This team is often specially trained and includes an
engineer and a draftsman. The second stage is the creation
of a three-dimensional drawing using CAD, which is a
computer aided design system.
This drawing can then be fed into the rapid prototype
machine so that it can create a scaled down model of
the product. CAD drawings are then kept and used later
to create assembly drawings.
Next in the development prototyping process is the
creation of a working prototype. It is used to create
several working models of the product or part, which
can be made from different materials and have different
surface designs.
These models are then subjected to a battery of tests
to ensure safety compliance, and whether or not it meets
the original requests made by the customer. After the
working model has been determined to be satisfactory,
it will then be presented to the customer for approval.
Once approved, prototype models can double as a means
for creating a mold for use in the final production
process. The production process is the last stage.

More Graphic Design Facts....
What methods are used in graphic design?
Graphic design methods range from
screen printing to web page layouts. It is in fine art,
drawings and signs created by machines. There is virtually
hundreds of different ways that graphic designs are
created.
From the hand drawn sign advertising a Yard Sale to
the buttons created at a screen print shop for the local
politician. Anything that is informative is considered
to be graphic design and so any method used to create
this information is the method used to create it.
