Digital Photography Basics Shack Guide
Digital Photography Basics For Creating Better Images
By Jane Lovell
Knowing digital photography basics requires understanding
about the correction of images and avoiding obvious
mistakes, including red eye, camera shake and editing
your images with software on your computer.
Taking images with your digital camera, allows you to
see your images immediately and ability to replace that
image, by creating the image again. For example, if
you are taking a portrait and you notice she has the
dreaded red eye, then you take the shot again, only
this time use the red eye reduction feature on your
digital camera or move the flash further away from the
lens.
Keeping The Flash Away From The Lens
There are two digital photography basics you should
know about the red eye. The first is that it tends to
produce more if the flash is closer to the lens. The
second is that digital cameras are so small that the
flash is closer to the lens than ever.
There are three options to combat this in digital photography.
The first is the use of camera red-eye flash, almost
all digital cameras have this feature.
The second option is to use the built-in camera red
eye removal tool if there is one. This usually involves
facial recognition technology that eliminates the red
eye before you save the picture. The last and more time
consuming option, is to remove it with editing software
on your computer.
Knowing Your Flash Options
On many digital cameras, there are a number of flash
options. The most common options are automatic flash,
red eye, forced and off. Some cameras, include other
options that change the flash intensity. Reading the
instruction manual, you will be able to review your
options and understand how these flash options work.
Another way to understand the differences, is to try
them all out, by taking the same image, with different
flash options and then compare the different images.
Avoiding Camera Shake In Your Images
Placing a big telephoto lens (3x, 5x or even 12x zoom)
on a small camera makes the lowest vibration affect
the image in a big way. It is therefore important to
hold a camera steady, and even use a tripod or a table,
when taking a photo with a zoom lens.
The effects of camera shake are often not visible until
viewed on a screen bigger than the camera screen, like
your computer screen.
Improving Your Images With Photo Editing Software
Photo editing software is bundled with most new digital
cameras, but if you are not satisfied with the software,
you can search online for other image editing software.
Understanding the basics of image editing, allows you
to improve on the original image taken with your camera.
There are times when you take an image, and you do not
have the time to take another image.
It is these times, when you can make many changes to
the digital image with photo editing software including
adding special effects, adding text, cropping your photos
and adjusting color, contrast and brightness. These
adjustments are used by most photographers who understand
digital photography basics.

making photography easier through digital cameras. Breaking

It can be a full-time occupation with very rewarding
results.
Weddings, senior pictures and baby pictures are always
in demand and for consumers, more photographers means
a wider range to choose from.
It is not just portraits of blushing brides or smiling
babies either. Photojournalism and stock photographs
are in high demand as well.
Do not let life just pass you by if you find yourself
in a dead end job that you hate. Photography is a career
field that is always in need of new lenses and a fresh
eye for capturing those special moments or unique shots.
As demand increases, so too does the need for photographers.
It can be a part-time job or can be turned into a career
that you love.
If given the choice, most people would prefer to have
an occupation that they love. If you think back to childhood,
you can remember the all important question "What
do you want to be when you grow up?"
Unfortunately many individuals find themselves in careers
that are less than desirable and far from what they
always wanted to do. If you always wanted to try photography
when you were younger, take heart and know that it is
not an impossibility.
