When were picture frames first used?
The first picture frames were merely borders that were found 3-4,000 years ago on tomb walls and vase paintings. They were usually drawn on to distinguish one picture from another picture.

You have to remember that at that time the drawings and paintings usually were done to tell a story or an event so there needed to be a way to distinguish one picture from another.
