DVD Editing To Make Your Own Video Movies
By Nikos L Maxwell
Dvd editing is much easier these days as there is a
large range of DVD editing software available for both
PC and Mac.
There is the fairly basic dvd editing software where
you can drag and drop your video clips and make a movie.
You can add a DVD menu and a scene index and then burn
the video onto a DVD using DVD burning software.
There is the advanced professional DVD editing software
like Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, you can do all the editing,
add special effects to video and audio and fancy titles.
The possibilities are endless.
Advances in film and video technology – both
in terms of the hardware and software – have been truly
phenomenal in the last few years.
DVD video cameras are almost ubiquitous nowadays, and
have a resolution that is comparable to film cameras.
On the other hand, adding special effects has become
so easy and inexpensive that anyone with a home computer
can do it.
The Best DVD Editing Software
Unfortunately, however, the interface between the hardware
and the software is still difficult and problematic.
Finding and learning how to use the right DVD editing
software is as hard as ever, and it shows no signs of
becoming easy.
One of the problems is the wide variety of DVD edit
software. At the center of it, there is the Apple/IBM
Divide.
Make a choice Apple or IBM
For a while, DVD editing – along with other applications
– was shared between Apples and IBM’s. Many of the programs
were compatible, and it began to seem like one day people
would be able to switch from one format to the other
with ease.
Nowadays, however, you have to choose one standard
or the other for DVD editing. There is no clear choice
anymore, and editing DVDs is no easier than in the old
days.
Amateur Filmmakers
This is a real problem for amateur filmmakers. Many
of my friends use any editing DVD software programs
that they can get hold of. They may have their own camera
and some of the programs on their computer, and have
to use other programs on a friends computer.
Unless everyone uses the same DVD editing equipment,
things can be very difficult. Even different editions
of the DVD editing software are not always compatible.
Basically, unless you are willing to choose one standard
right off the bat and stick with it, you should be prepared
for a headache.
Cheaper and Faster
The only good news is that DVD editing continues to
get cheaper and faster. The DVD editing software is
not much easier to use than before, but it has gotten
to the point where even the more backwards varieties
are good enough for most applications.
This means that, until you know how to choose, almost
any choice in dvd software will work.
My favourite DVD Editing software is Adobe Premiere
Pro which can be quite expensive. But there is the consumer
level Adobe Premiere Elements and it is much cheaper.
With Premiere Elements you can drag and drop your video
clips, create a DVD menu and a scene index and prepare
the content for burning onto a DVD.
I use Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 as it has the latest video
editing techniques available and includes a large variety
of special effects and real time editing. When I create
my videography videos, I use Adobe Premiere Pro.
