Freelance Opportunities For Photographers And Writers

By Louis Myrandle

Freelance opportunities are available for writers and photographers. You can work as an independent, costs per project basis. The customer only pays you for the costs of the project and not as a full time employee.

This allows you a larger variety of work and available to take freelance opportunities with other customers. You are like a freelance agent. Agent for hire.

Once you get a reputation for quality work, then you should expect a wide variety of freelance opportunities to come your way. You wont have to look for them. The customers know your work and they come looking for you, whenever they have new projects.

At The Beginning

When you are starting out as a freelance photographer you need to make yourself known. You can look at ads for freelance jobs and contact them. You need to use these jobs as a stepping stone for better freelance opportunities down the track.

We all start as unknowns. Once we build a reputation for quality work then expect to be flooded with freelance opportunities.

On The Lookout For Freelance Opportunities

If you are a writer or a photographer, chances are good that you are always on the lookout for freelance opportunities.

Though there are some staff jobs for writers and photographers with magazines and other media outlets, many who are in these professions rely on freelance jobs to pay the bills.

Sometimes this is a blessing, and other times it is downright scary. How easy or how hard it is to make ends meet will depend on where you are in your career.

Luckily, it is much easier to find freelance opportunities than it used to be. I cannot imagine what it was like to look for these opportunities ten or twenty years ago.

Writers and photographers would many times have to contact companies over and over again to ask about freelance opportunities. Once they got their careers going, the opportunities probably came to them. However, starting out must have been very daunting.

Freelance Opportunities Online

Those starting out now have the Internet. You can find many freelance opportunities online. It may not even take you very long to find your first one. If you have good search skills, you can probably find more freelance opportunities than you know what to do with or how to handle.

The trick is to start small and build your way up. Though you may think some of your first jobs are beneath your dignity, you may soon find that these jobs are what bring you bigger and better freelance opportunities.

Everyone has to start somewhere, but the important thing is that you start.

Once you learn how to take advantage of the freelance opportunities you see online, you will feel your career start to pick up momentum.

Freelance Opportunity Come To You

As long as you do good work, are pleasant to work with, and meet all of your deadlines, you will find that the freelance opportunities begin to come to you. I started my writing career very small, as most writers do, and I had to search out each and every single job I had.

Now that I have been working for a few years the opportunities are starting to come to me. If the freelance opportunities ever stop coming in, I am thankful that I have already had the experience of having to find them myself.

That way, I know I won’t be without work for long. After you have gotten your feet wet you won’t have that far to go before you are swimming along nicely.

Word Of Mouth

Most of my work comes from word of mouth as I don’t advertise in Yellow Pages or anywhere else apart from my website. I have a portfolio of my work on my website and a list of some of my current clients.

When I first started out as a freelance photographer, I used to advertise my services on Yellow Pages and other advertising media and I found I wasn’t getting serious customers. These were people that would spend a lot of time on the phone and expect to pay next to nothing for my services.

I have since changed my approach and use my current clients to get new clients and look for freelance opportunities when in between projects.

There is always a lull in between big projects, waiting for final approval of costs and acceptance of the quote. To maintain an income stream, I am always on the lookout for freelance opportunities.
