Glamour Photography And Model Portraits
By Judd Walker
Glamour photography is a part of portrait photography.
The resulting image is a portrait of the model and the
image may include a product, depending on the requirements
of the project. But the photograph draws the eye to
the model and then around the model to see everything
else in the image.
The popularity of glamour photography is well known.
You can see glamour photographs on billboards, in magazines,
on television. An image that makes the model the subject
of the image, is a glamour photograph. The model can
be fully clothed, or partially clothed or no clothes
at all. But the model dominates the image.
Draw Attention To The Model
Glamour photography draws attention to the model and
the model is the subject of the photograph instead of
the products being advertised or the environment of
the subject. While celebrities and fashion models are
often the subjects of glamour photography, the right
lighting and make-up can transform just about anybody.
Glamour photography has evolved over history from the
pin-up girls in the 1950s to more risqué photography
today such as those found in popular men’s magazines.
However, the distinction has to be stressed that glamour
photography is not pornography.
While some models may be dressed in little or no clothing,
glamour photography is about the power of suggestion
instead of blatant and obvious nudity. While most glamour
photography is for public consumption through commercial
advertising and fashion editorials, they may also be
taken for personal use.

How To Have The Best Glamour Photographs
Glamour photography involves the subject being entirely
comfortable with the photographer. You need to be able
to trust the photographer and be upfront about your
expectations for the photo shoot beforehand. You can
choose to have the photographs taken in a studio for
more privacy or at a location to add a contextual feel
to the pictures.
While you may have an idea of what you want the photographs
to look like, you may also want to ask for input and
listen to the suggestions of the photographer for what
will look best.
Be Prepared WIth Make Up And Props
Glamour shots are often taken vertically instead of
horizontally so that the eye of the viewer is immediately
drawn to the face of the model. You can also bring certain
props and articles of clothing to be used during the
shoot but make sure that the colors and themes do not
clash with the background. You also need to pay attention
to lighting since shadows and blurriness will be able
to convey particular moods strongly.
Ask your photographer to focus on your eyes, as much
as possible. Even slight tilts and changes in position
could alter the look of glamour photography considerably.
Ensure your make-up is as natural as possible unless
the theme of the glamour shot calls for more exaggerated
looks.
Adjusting Glamour Portraits
If there are blemishes on your skin, you can ask the
photographer to adjust your images so that they are
taken out. You may not want to show your scars, boils,
pimples on your skin, so these are taken out from the
image, to show you in the best light. The aim of the
image is to show the beauty of the human form, the smooth
skin of your body.
Some women like a glamour portrait to present to their
husband on his birthday. You can discuss your options
with the photographer. You may want one black and white
and one colour image, or a whole sequence of images
in a multimedia presentation. These are some of the
options available in glamour photography.
