Making A Website For Your Online Business
By Louis Myrandle
Making a website these days, is rather easy. You can
create a blog with just a few clicks, in about 5 to
10 minutes. The blog can be customised to attract traffic
and even make sales. You can run other sites, including
information sites, family sites and online business
sites.
You do not even have to have to host the site on a
paid hosting service. For example, you can set up a
Wordpress blog on their servers and not pay hosting.
If you are already using a hosting service, you may
look at hosting your Wordpress blog from your own server,
as it allows you more freedom to control your website.
If you wish to run an online business, with plenty
of images, videos and shopping carts, you may need to
use a hosting service, with a dedicated server. This
means, there are no other websites hogging the bandwidth
for your site, slowing down your pages. Although a dedicated
server may be more expensive than a shared server, you
will find that it is worth that extra peace of mind,
when your site is always up and not slowed down by other
sites on your server.
Creating A Website With Code
When I first got started out on the Internet, only
the very few bothered with making a website. You see,
the Internet was still clunky and slow, and it required
some real programming knowledge to make your own website.
Back in the day, you had to understand HTML to make
a website. There were no shortcuts back then, no Dreamweaver
or anything like that. Building a personal website was
a labor of love, something not for the faint of heart
or the inexperienced.
Many People Have A Blog
It is funny how quickly things have changed. Nowadays,
making a website is practically a rite of passage for
anyone who wants to consider himself or herself tech
savvy. Everyone and their mother has a blog, and the
numbers are only growing.
If you have not learned to make your own website, you
probably feel behind by now. After all, sites such as
MySpace and LiveJournal make it so easy that people
who know next to nothing about the Internet are doing
it.
Never Made My Own Website
I have to admit that, up until recently, I had never
made a website. I had told myself that making a website
was a waste of time – that I didn't really have the
desire, and there were more important things to do.
In reality, however, I was a little bit scared.
I knew so many people who had made some very good websites,
and I knew that mine would not look like anything special.
I was far below the level of most of my friends were
at. I could not build a professional website. At best,
I could make something stripped down and basic to display
my content. Nonetheless, I finally decided it was worth
it.
A Lot Easier To Make A Website
When I got down to it, making a website was a lot easier
than I had expected. There was so much free Web hosting
that I had a variety of options available. I didn't
have to pay a lot of money, and I certainly didn't need
to know how to program!
You can make a website with some basic functionality
and content, sharing your photographs and your blogs,
in about 10 minutes. If you are interested in making
a website with a more professional layout, it will take
longer, but it is still nothing for you to worry about.
Best of all, you will feel more included by your online
friends, And you might just make new friends as well!
Knowing Why You Need A Website
Before you decide to go ahead with making a website,
you may need to find out why you need a website. Do
you need a family website, an online business website
to sell products or an information website? Once you
decide on the type of website you need, you can then
look at the costs and your time and effort required
to set up the website.
There are a number of options, when setting a website.
You can look at using templates supplied by many hosting
companies and make you website look like millions of
other websites. Alternatively, you can look at making
an original website with your own graphics and design.
This may take a few weeks or months to set up, depending
on your knowledge of web design and your level of skill.
Alternatively, you can ask a web designer to design
your website, to help cut down on the time to create
the website.
Once the website is available, you can continue to
use the services of a web designer to update the site,
or you may want to learn how to update your website,
so you can control how the site is updated. Remember,
you may need to be careful you do not delete or amend
important code on the web pages of your site, or your
site may crash and may need to bring in the web designer
to find out the problem, escalating your costs
Increasing your knowledge of web and graphics design,
web programming and content management, may help you,
when you are making a website.
