Microscope For Leading Edge Research
By Cedric B Georges
A microscope for research can be an expensive gadget
to have in one’s lab, yet this piece of equipment is
essential for one to properly do their work. Many different
types are on the market today from which to choose.
For example, there is the confocal microscope, which
uses lasers, and there is the transmission electron
microscope, which uses the excitability of electrons
to see the images. No matter what type of microscope
one uses for their laboratory, research has come a long
way since 1674.
For a biologist, who aims to find cures for diseases,
four main types of microscopes are used for research.
They are the dissection microscope, the compound microscope,
the scanning electron microscope, and the transmission
electron microscope.
Scanning Microscope To View 3D Images
The scanning and transmission electron microscopes
both used electrons and their excitability in order
to view objects. The scanning microscope sees images
in 3D and the transmission microscope sees them in 2D.
A dissection microscope helps one to view larger images
so that they can be dissected. The compound is most
popular and allows one to see the image at the cell
level, unlike the dissection scope.
The Confocal Microscope Uses Lasers
Other types of a microscope for research are the confocal
microscope and the atomic force microscope. The confocal
uses lasers in order to view images that are then viewed
on a computer monitor.
The atomic force scope is similar to the SEM, but while
the items in the scanning scope use a vacuum, an atomic
scope does not. These are both very high tech scopes
that can make research very interesting with the images
that can be viewed.
Complex And High Tech Devices Used In Leading Edge
Research
Researchers use a microscope for various reasons. Sometimes
it is to unravel mysteries that have confounded scholars
for millions of years. Other times, it may be to help
solve a disease puzzle that is plaguing the world.
The world today has become so high tech that many have
yet to understand what it is that researchers do behind
the scenes until their finished product is seen. However,
many can understand a little better by just understanding
how high tech their devices are, compared to those that
are found in a high school laboratory.

More Microscope Facts....
If you have ever had a science class in the course
of your education then you know how important microscopes
are to the world. It helps us identify subatomic particles,
cells and even helps create electronic components.
There is a plethora of websites on the internet that
can direct you towards where you need to go in order
to purchase a microscope for your own personal use or
for laboratory use. All you have to do is know where
to look. That part is made simple for you.
