Museums In Town
By Sylvia Adolvana
There are more and more families who try to plan their
summer vacations, and other family travel adventures,
around activities that can provide educational opportunities
as well as fun. Because of this, there are many museums
that top the lists of families who are in the midst
of making their travel plans.
But, families are not the only ones who love what a
good museum has to offer, and often couples with shared
interests enjoy expanding their shared knowledge at
various museum galleries as well.
Museums In New York City
Some of the most famous and most visited museums in
the world are found in New York City. It seems that
there is one museum after another, which each has its
own claim to fame and that displays collections of priceless
art, stunning jewels, and fascinating design and architecture.
Not to mention the insights into world history and
American history one can gain by strolling through one
of the history museum exhibits.
Making Your Decision
Because there are so many world-class museums to be
found in the city of New York, it can be a bit overwhelming
and difficult to decide on which one you should visit
first, or how to prioritize your schedule of museum
visits.
The first thing to do is to decide what particular
types of exhibits interest you most, and then look at
the amount of time you will have to devote to your museum
tours.
Highlighting Works Of Modern Art
The Museum of Modern Art is one of the all-time, most
popular in New York City. It is considered to be one
of the premier museums in the entire world that is dedicated
to showing works of modern art.
Established back in 1929, this museum hosts an impressive
and varied collection of works by many modern artists,
such as Warhol, Picasso, and hundreds of other artists,
both well known and relatively obscure.
Historical Art
If you have more interest in visiting a history museum
than you do in viewing collections of art, then your
top priority might be a tour of the offerings that can
be found at the New York Historical Society Museum.
The collection that the historical society has put
together provides interesting and unique insights into
the history of New York. Part of the collection includes
items of historic interest, such as furnishings, paintings
and decorative objects, including Tiffany lamps.
American Immigration History
The Ellis Island Immigration Museum is another popular
destination that is on the "must see" list
for those who enjoy American history. This is considered
to be one of the most interesting of all the museum
locations because of the vast number of new Americans
who passed through Ellis Island to enter their new
homeland.
Over 12 million immigrants were processed through the
Ellis Island Immigration center; therefore, there are
now hundreds of millions of American citizens who can
look to Ellis Island knowing that their ancestors entered
into the United States there.
Natural Artifacts
Another well-known New York institution in terms of
museums in the American Museum of Natural History, which
is quite easy to find on the busy street of Central
Park West.
This museum is one of the most respected anywhere in
the world and it holds an amazing array of artifacts
that provide historical insights, with regard to mankind
and the earth.

More Museum Ideas....
Can anything be displayed in a museum?
Absolutely anything can be displayed
in a museum. There are museums entirely dedicated to
pop culture items. There is a museum that is strictly
cereal boxes.
The contents of the museum are
up to the person gathering the collection together.
There is probably a museum for absolutely everything.
The only limit is the imagination and the drive to gather
together the pieces to be displayed in the museum.
