Night Vision Binoculars To Navigate In The Dark

By Cedric B Georges

Unless you have some sort of super power that no one else has, chances are pretty good that you cannot see very well in the dark. The human eyes can adjust to darkness and see within a limited range but details are often lacking. Enter in night vision binoculars as a way to see in the dark.

These night binoculars and night vision monoculars are incredibly handy for those who need to see at night. It may be for law enforcement personnel or the military, or it could be outdoor enthusiasts looking to hunt something down during the darkest hours. Whatever the reason, they are gaining quickly in popularity.

Variety Of Night Vision Binoculars

Whether they are in monocular or binocular form, many types of night vision equipment are now available. Night vision devices are classified by the generation of the image tube, 0 thru 4. Most commercial night vision binoculars utilize a gen-1 image tube, which will provide a clear image under most conditions.

These work by intensifying existing starlight, moonlight and infrared light. Later generations, 2 thru 4, contain progressive improvements that provide better image clarity and visual range. Innovation comes at a price however, with earlier technology selling for several hundred dollars, and later ones selling for several thousand dollars.

Navigating At Night

Keep in mind your intended use when selecting your optical systems. If you require binoculars for "hands free" use, then head mounted gear is readily available. Perhaps you would like to navigate at night. If so, many models come with an independent infra-red illuminator, useful for reading maps or a compass.

If not included, a stand-alone unit is readily available. Feel the need to explore photography at night? Adapters are available for many cameras allowing them to utilize your night vision device. Specialized protective cases are also available from many sources. Many other monocular and binocular accessories are available as well.

Seeing in the dark is a necessity sometimes. Yet does the average person need night vision binoculars? Probably not, but for those who need to explore the grandness of nature at night, it is a necessity. Sure, it all started with the military. Many of our most popular technological devices used in the outdoors did originate with the military, yet were modified for consumer use.

These nighttime binoculars are a great way to see things that might normally go undetected. You may be a bird watcher searching for that unique bird to add to your list. The reasons are many for having these binoculars.
