Scanning Electron Microscope Is An Invaluable Research Tool
By Cedric B Georges
By having a scanning electron microscope in one’s lab,
they are taking their scientific research to a whole
different level. A SEM offers so many advantages to
the high tech labs of today that one may be left in
the dust, if they do not invest in one.
Research is becoming more and more advanced on a daily
basis, and these types of magnifying instruments are
definitely needed, no matter what the cost. The advantages
heavily outweigh any disadvantages that one may think
of when it comes to owning a SEM.
One of the main advantages of owning a scanning electron
microscope is the depth of field that it offers the
researcher. For those who do not understand what depth
of field is, let’s explain. Depth of field is how one
sees a specimen.
Extremely High Resolution Of Images
The SEM offers the observer the chance to see a larger
part of the object being studied than any other microscope.
The scanning microscope is invaluable when it comes
to the amount of an object that can be viewed on microscope
slides. One can see an entire specimen instead of just
a small part, which is what a light microscope offers.
Many other advantages exist when choosing a scanning
microscope for the lab. The microscope offers extremely
high resolution of images and this is crucial in today’s
world of research.
Can See Minute Detail
The microscope also offers a higher level of magnification
than most other microscopes and this helps to ensure
the images are seen in minute detail. This can help
in studying various viruses and even parts of an animal
or insect.
Since the microscope uses electromagnets instead of
lenses, the user has the uncanny ability to see items
at a much closer range. This can prove invaluable when
studying and trying to find cures for diseases.
Very Expensive To Buy
Using a scanning electron microscope to view microscope
images can prove invaluable for anyone who does research.
Today’s world is so technologically advanced that simple
compound microscopes have gone by the wayside.
Although these microscopes are very expensive, if one
has great funding, then they should definitely not miss
out on owning a scanning microscope to study specimens.

More Microscope Facts....
Science would not be where it is today if it were not
for the microscope. Microscopes range in size from small,
portable viewing devices up to the huge electron scanning
ones used for research in major labs across the world.
The size is not the only thing that varies. You may
be able to pick up a traditional light microscope for
under twenty dollars but if you are looking at a research
quality microscope you may be paying out thousands and
thousands for it.
Do not forget the slides and accessories while you
are buying either.
